Lyme Disease and Tick-Borne Illness

Lyme disease is a disease commonly transmitted through a tick bite, caused by a bacterium, Borrelia Burgdorderi. Most people believe that the classic symptom, the Bull’s eye rash, is the true sign that one has Lyme Disease. This is one of the most infectious diseases for humans. But, in fact, a small percentage of people actually get the Bull’s eye rash from the tick bite. Lyme Disease is the most well-known tick-borne illness.

Many co-infections exist which include Anaplasma, Babesiosis, Powassan virus, B. miyamotoi, and Bartonella. which have their own symptoms that differ from Lyme disease. If you’ve been looking into the treatment of Lyme disease for humans, we can help!

Lyme Disease and Tick-Borne Illness Symptoms

Lyme Disease symptoms include headaches, joint pain, muscle aches, and neck pain and can continue to cardiac symptoms as well as neurologic symptoms with facial paralysis, otherwise known as Bell’s Palsy, to tremors and brain and spinal cord inflammation. Symptoms of the “co-infections” often overlap with those of Lyme but also include a range of other problems such as dyspnea, psychiatric illness, plantar fasciitis, back pain, rib pain, and night sweats. Lyme and these co-infections are opportunistic diseases, meaning that symptoms often emerge (or worsen) when the host’s immune system is compromised, such as from pre-existing health conditions.

Lyme Disease Testing

Testing for Lyme (and TBIs) is an unreliable marker for the disease, which means that many people with these illnesses have a false negative test. Which obviously can negatively impact post-treatment options for people with Lyme disease. Many of us, as Lyme providers, use specialized testing along with supportive labs to support a diagnosis of Lyme disease. Early Lyme disease detection is best for helping prevent long-term side effects!

At Horizons of Health, we take a comprehensive approach to looking at the root cause of why the body is not restoring itself to homeostasis, and once we find the reasons, we start correcting them through aggressive therapies.

Lyme Disease and Tick-Borne Illness Treatment

For many providers, antibiotic treatment is the mainstay treatment with a plethora of other antibiotics for Lyme disease.

There are a variety of ways to treat Lyme disease and many different views on how to do this. As with any complex chronic condition, a holistic approach beyond antibiotic treatment is necessary.

Jennifer Baer was one of the original providers in the Capital District to train and treat Chronic Lyme disease. After using antibiotics for many years to treat, without noticing long-lasting resolution for the majority of her patients, she opted to find other methods of treating related side effects.

She then went on to train and work under the guidance of a world-renowned physician in treating Chronic Illness at LifeWorks Wellness Center using cutting-edge treatments to support the body in recovery.

She has a broad knowledge base and many tools to support the body in healing and recovery.
